In the mold industry, quoting is not just about adding up material and machining hours—it’s a technical judgment call. The first thing I always check is the part geometry and tolerance requirements. For a typical injection mold, the steel grade alone can swing the quote by 30–40%. P20 is fine for low-volume prototypes, but for production runs above 100,000 shots, you’re looking at H13 or S136, especially if the resin is glass-filled.
